SUBJECT: Appointment of Interim SHRA Council Chairperson
Dear Partners and Stakeholders,
The Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) wishes to inform stakeholders of a
leadership update within the governance structures of the SHRA.
The Honourable Minister of Human Settlements, Ms Thembi Simelane, MP, has
appointed Mr. Tumisho Makofane, a member of the SHRA Council, to serve as Interim
Chairperson of the SHRA Council with immediate effect. This appointment follows the
resignation of Ms Pulane Thobejane as Chairperson and member of Council.
The SHRA extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the former chairperson, Ms
Pulane Thobejane, for her dedicated service, leadership and contribution during her
tenure as Chairperson and member of the SHRA Council. We wish Ms Thobejane every
success in her future endeavours.
The SHRA welcomes the appointment of Mr. Tumisho Makofane as the interim
chairperson of the SHRA Council, who has been serving as a member of the SHRA
Council since February 2025. Mr. Makofane is a highly accomplished and professionally
registered Construction Project Manager (PrCPM). and brings a wealth of governance
leadership and technical expertise to the role, with more than 25 years’ experience in the
private, public and built environment sectors. Added to this, he has extensive experience
in project, programme and portfolio management.
His expertise spans over strategic infrastructure planning and implementation,
programme and project turnaround strategies, capital budgeting and financial oversight,
contract and supply chain management, governance, compliance and risk management,
stakeholder engagement, public-private partnerships, and human capital and
performance management. He has also successfully led and supported the delivery of
critical social infrastructure projects, including schools, clinics, housing, transport, water,
and sanitation initiatives across various entities.
The SHRA is confident that his extensive experience and strategic leadership capabilities
will provide valuable guidance to the SHRA during this transitional period.
